Women from Rheinfelden suffered different fates.
One woman, found her fulfilment in arts and crafts. Another was committed to the poor: she helped people and thus laid a foundation for the future. Certain ladies lived in luxury, had power and enacted laws which are still important and effective today.
Agnes of Rheinfelden
(1065-1111).
Rheinfelden has always produced exceptional Rheinfelden women in its long history since the town was founded. This guided tour is dedicated to these historical figures. Nevertheless, the tour does not only address women.
One of these women is Princess and Duchess Agnes of Rheinfelden. A separate guided tour with an actress is dedicated to her.
Nanette Kalenbach
(1831-1917).
Another woman was Nanette Kalenbach-Schröter. Her work began at a time of very great poverty among the population. She was a co-founder of the Frauenverein and the Frauenchor. The women's association founded a soup kitchen at that time, so that the poorest people could get a warm meal at least once a day.
The stairs from Bahnhofsstrasse to Kirchplatz were named after her.
