Cycling round tour Möhlin/Schwörstad - Kaiseraugst/Herten

Leisurely tour on both sides of the Rhine.

Between the Swiss villages of Kaiseraugst and Möhlin, and the German towns of Schwörstad and Herten, a beautiful bike route stretches along the Rhine. Mostly the tour leads through shady forests - natural roads and asphalt alternate.

The almost 26km long route with about 80 meters of ascent can be completed in about 2 hours without stopping. But there is so much to see along the route. Stop at one of the many benches and enjoy the view of the Rhine. Visit Beuggen Castle and the Tschamber Caves on the German side of the Rhine or marvel at the hydroelectric power plants.

Power stations, bridges & a ferry.

At least twice you cross the Rhine. Once at the Riburg-Schwörstad power plant and once at Kaiseraugst/Herten. There the Kaiseraugst Rhine ferry is waiting for you.

The operating times are somewhat limited depending on the season. If the ferry is not in operation, continue to the Augst-Whylen power station. Since there is a lock there as well as the power plant, with a little luck you will see the ship of the Basler Personenschifffahrt on its way between Rheinfelden and Basel.

Starting point Rheinfelden.

The route can be started at any waypoint. However, Rheinfelden is best suited for this. Easily accessible by car, bus, train and boat, the small town is the ideal starting point. In addition, there are numerous bicycle stands and restaurants in the old town for refreshments.
