Adelshäuser an der Rheinfelder Bahnhofstrasse

Noble Houses Bahnhofstrasse

Built in the 16th century by the wealthier social class, the aristocratic houses line Bahnhofstrasse at the upper end of the old town. Where the Swiss nobility used to be served in noble rooms, Rheinfelden's children learn in the Altstadt kindergarten and primary school. The Schützen Clinic is located in the Schönauerhof.

Where the nobility lived.

The upper part of the old town was home to the better-off social class. The so-called noble houses were built in the 16th century and were spacious and magnificent buildings. At that time, there were also numerous noble families in Switzerland. Especially under the rule of the Habsburgs, when wealthy citizens occupied political offices and thus acquired titles of nobility.

From the train station and Hotel Schützen, they line Bahnhofstrasse to the lower Old Town and Zähringerplatz.

While the buildings were once reserved for the nobility, today the houses have multiple functions. They are dedicated to the education and mental well-being of all people.

The two noble houses Schönauerhof and Lustgarten are located directly on Bahnhofstrasse. In place of the Schönauerhof, the old castle used to stand. The building was renovated in 2019 and is part of the Schützen Clinic.

The Hugenfeldhaus shows late Gothic, richly decorated sandstone portals. Today it houses the primary school building and classes of the kindergarten Altstadt. The Spyserhaus on Hauptwachplatz, on the other hand, has a classicist portal.
