The carnival opening parade with Mrs. Fasnacht, numerous Guggen concerts, the big children's carnival and the tradition of handing Mrs. Fasnacht over to the Rhine in flames. This and much more makes the carnival days the most beautiful fifth season of the year.
Thursday, February 12: Carnival opening with parade
The procession starts shortly before 8.00 pm at the old customs office. It leads along Marktgasse to Obertorplatz. The official opening of the carnival takes place there at 8.11 p.m. with the hanging of the "Frau Fasnacht", an aperitif and several Guggen concerts. At the same time, you can marvel at the floats of the Rheinfeld cliques.
Afterwards, carnival enthusiasts can celebrate the start of the fifth season in various pubs and bars with food and drink and accompanied by Guggenmusik.
Friday, February 13: School carnival, small information meeting and Schnitzelbank evening
On Friday at 10 a.m., the school carnival with over 500 children starts at the Hauptwachplatz and leads through the old town. After the parade, there will be a party on the Hauptwachplatz.
From 7 p.m. onwards, the "Kleinformationentreffen" takes place with musical performances on Zähringerplatz, in the Rumpelzelt and in various pubs. Various pubs will also be offering drinks and food.
Of course, the Schnitzelbank evening is also a must. In various Rheinfeld pubs, there is great wordplay and delicious food throughout the evening.
Saturday, February 14: Children's parade, children's carnival and Guggen square concerts
On Saturday, there will be face painting for all children from 1.11 pm at the Ludothek at the Schützenweg gymnasium. The children's parade then starts there at 2.11 pm.
From 3.01 pm, the big children's carnival takes place on Zähringerplatz, with a confetti fight and concerts by the Rheinfeld Guggen.
From 6.41 pm, the carnival continues with Guggen concerts by numerous local and foreign Guggen. These take place on three different stages (Rathaus Innenhof, Zähringerplatz, Albrechtsplatz and Manhattan). Various outdoor stalls also provide refreshments.
Finally, the torchlight procession from customs to Obertorplatz at 11.11 pm is a must.
Sunday, February 15: Cross-border parade and burning of Mrs. Fasnacht
At 11.11 a.m., the traditional meeting of bass players from local and foreign Guggen takes place in the Rumpel - a musical treat of a special kind.
The cross-border parade through the old town takes place at 2.11 pm. It starts in Rheinfelden in Schützenweg. The bus service over the Rhine bridge will therefore be suspended from 1 - 5 pm.
At 6.11 pm, the "Usbrüelete" parade starts at Obertorplatz. With a stopover at the town hall to hand the sceptre back to the town council, the procession takes Mrs. Fasnacht to the Schifflände. There, in keeping with Rheinfeld tradition, she is handed over to the Rhine on fire. This is followed by a meal of flour soup at Dock 11.
Rheinfeld plaque.
Once again this year, the matching Rheinfeld plaque is a must. The motif was selected in the traditional plaque competition.
