Millet Porridge Ride 2026
The traditional Millet Porridge Parade will stop in Rheinfelden on August 20, 2026. This historic event, which takes place only once every ten years, brings together history, tradition, and a sense of community along the Rhine.

This year, the Millet Porridge Ride will take place from August 19 to 23, 2026, and Rheinfelden has the honor of serving as a stage stop and overnight destination. On Thursday evening, August 20, 2026, the traditional Millet Porridge Ride will make a stop in Rheinfelden. Organized primarily by the Limmat Club Zurich, the journey commemorates the legendary first Millet Porridge Journey of 1456 and the promise made back then to deliver still-warm millet porridge from Zurich to Strasbourg. Since World War II, the Millet Porridge Ride has been held every ten years, keeping the historical connections along the Rhine alive to this day.

Look forward to the ceremonial arrival of the Hirsebreifahrt, accompanied by music from the Rheinfelden City Band, as well as a public reception on the banks of the Rhine near the boat landing.

Approximate arrival of the millet porridge boat and a welcome salute with nine cannon shots—as a tribute to the nine stars in the Rheinfelden city coat of arms
7:10 p.m.
Welcome speeches by Rheinfelden Mayor Claudia Rohrer, as well as remarks by Aargau State Councilor Markus Dieth and Zurich City Councilor Tobias Langegger, accompanied by musical performances by the Rheinfelden City Band
8:20 p.m.
Farewell to the millet porridge procession and march through the Old Town
Good to Know
The Hirsebreifahrt takes place every ten years.
Admission to the Hirsebreifahrt reception is free.

Rain Plan
The event is scheduled to take place outdoors at the Rheinfelden boat landing. If weather conditions (thunderstorms) make it necessary for safety reasons, the event will be held at the Kurbrunnen park.
