Swiss Salt Works Pratteln/Schweizerhalle
Learn how the salt, which lies deep underground, is mined and how it ends up on our plates as pure salt with the help of modern technology.
Salt as a raw material in chemistry.
Since 1837, the Schweizerhalle salt works has been extracting salt for people's various needs. As salt plays an important role as a raw material in chemistry, various chemical companies settled in the Basel region at an early stage.

Guided tours.
The guides accompany you through the production halls of a modern industrial plant. Here, safety and hygiene have the highest priority. We therefore ask you to adhere to the regulations throughout the tour and not to leave the group.

The path of the salt.
At the Schweizerhalle salt works, you can follow the extraction of the "white gold" from the brine (salt water) to the salt crystal directly on site. You will also gain an insight into the filling plant for packaged salts such as JuraSel® or Reosal®. A modern high-bay warehouse has been in operation since summer 2004.
