Rheinfelder star oaks
Since 1944, nine star oaks have stood in various parts of the town's forest, representing the nine stars in Rheinfeld's coat of arms. These almost 300-year-old trees can be visited on a hike through the Rheinfeld forest.
The 9 stars in the Rheinfeld coat of arms.
In 1944, Ernst Grell made a request to the local community that, as a symbol for the stars in the Rheinfeld coat of arms, "nine oak trees should be preserved in the forest as an inviolable emblem or left standing for all time". The request was accepted and the forest manager at the time, Fritz Wunderlin, designated a total of nine oaks - the star oaks - in all parts of the forest. They were marked with a red star and a consecutive number. The numbers 1, 4 and 7 have since had to be replaced. However, the others are still the heraldic trees selected in 1944.
