Hike to the Sonnenberg tower
Great views over the entire Fricktal: after the ascent to the Sonnenberg tower, all your senses will be satisfied.
Hike with a view.
From Rheinfelden railroad station, the section of the Fricktaler Höhenweg leads over the Schiffacker. From the wooded Steppberg, the trail continues to the Magdener Galgen - always following the Fricktaler Lindenblatt on a blue background, the signpost for the Fricktaler Höhenweg. The entire ascent to the Sonnenberg tower is around 300 meters in altitude. But the climb is worth it. There is a great view from the Sonnenbergturm rest area.
Built in 1913 from Jura sandstone, the tower is 22 meters high. 99 wooden steps lead up to the covered viewing platform. The viewing platform can be visited for an entrance fee of CHF 0.50. The tower offers a panoramic view from the Black Forest to the Alps. A 360° panorama board inside the viewing platform informs visitors about the possible views.
«Turmstübli» with kitchen and kiosk.
In October 1875, the former wooden tower, also known as the Hochwacht, was inaugurated on the Sonnenberg. This was thanks to the initiative of the Rheinfelder Kurverein. From 1951, the Möhlin Friends of Nature took over the facility and from then on provided the tower keeper. In 1974/75, the association worked hard to construct a new building at the foot of the tower: the «Turmstübli» with kitchen and kiosk.
