Rheinfelden: A City of Energy
On this guided tour, discover how Rheinfelden has evolved from wood—the primary energy source of the early centuries—through fossil fuels and nuclear power, all the way to the climate-neutral energy production of the 21st century.
The Development of an Energy City.
Join us on this 90-minute walking tour as we take you from the dark and cold days of the past to the high-tech energy world of today’s city. Learn more about the Climate and Energy Charter for Cities and Municipalities, which Rheinfelden signed in 2021, and how the goal of a fully renewable energy supply is to be achieved.
Expert knowledge on all things energy.
City guides Robi Conrad and Reto Rigassi from ENCO Energie-Consulting AG designed this walking tour. Learn how wood was the only source of energy in the Middle Ages and how water gradually came to be used as an energy source. Discover the historic old town and the sites where the use of hydropower and energy conversion first began.
Accessible City Tour.
We are happy to accommodate your individual requests. Do you have participants with mobility impairments? Please let us know so that the tour guides can take this into account. The route will then be planned to ensure there are plenty of places to sit at short intervals. City tours are also available for people in wheelchairs. The tour and sights will be slightly adjusted so that no insurmountable stairs prevent you from enjoying the experience.
