Women's History: Stories of Noblewomen, Witches, and Female Artists
Learn more about the stories of influential women and their lives. An engaging walking tour through the Old Town—not just for women.
Women in Rheinfelden met with varying fates.
One woman found fulfillment in arts and crafts. Another dedicated herself to helping the poor: she assisted people and thereby laid the foundation for the future. Certain ladies lived in luxury, held power, and enacted laws that remain important and effective to this day.
Agnes of Rheinfelden
(1065–1111).
Throughout its long history since the city’s founding, Rheinfelden has repeatedly produced extraordinary women. This guided tour is dedicated to these historical figures. Nevertheless, the tour is not intended solely for women.
One of these women is Princess and Duchess Agnes of Rheinfelden. A separate tour featuring an actress is dedicated to her.
Nanette Kalenbach
(1831–1917).
Another woman was Nanette Kalenbach-Schröter. Her work began during a time of great poverty among the population. She was a co-founder of the Women’s Association and the women’s choir. At that time, the Women’s Association established a soup kitchen so that the poorest people could receive at least one hot meal a day.
The staircase leading from Bahnhofsstrasse to Kirchplatz was named after her.
