Advent sparkle Rheinfelden
The Advent activities in Rheinfelden will take place this year from Friday, November 28, 2025 to January 6, 2026. Numerous attractions, Christmas markets and illuminations will sweeten the contemplative Christmas season. Admission to the Magic of Lights is free of charge.
Magic of lights.
The Stadtpark West, the Inseli, the Schifflände and the Storchennest/Obertorturm are skillfully illuminated. The light magic begins at 4.30 pm.
In the interests of sustainability, the times of the illuminations have been adjusted without detracting from the experience.
In addition, a surprise awaits visitors in the city park, where they can generate electricity and thus Christmas lights using their own muscle power.
Christmas lights.
During Advent, not only the classic Christmas lights in the old town and the two large Christmas trees by the town hall sparkle; around 70 trees are decorated by 12 kindergarten and primary school classes as well as by the town and businesses; the Stadtpark West and the Inseli also shine in contemplative light.
The public street lighting, which is linked to the lighting in the Old Town, begins at 3.30 pm.

Advent calendar with a wow effect.
Digital Advent calendar
In the digital Advent calendar from Tourismus Rheinfelden, a new door can be opened every day - making the time until Christmas fly by. Whether competitions, quizzes or exciting information about the Advent sparkle: Boredom is guaranteed not to arise here.
Living Advent in the city library
Every Tuesday - Friday from 5.00 - 5.15 p.m., the City Library opens a little door of its big Advent calendar: sometimes you hear an atmospheric story, sometimes you hear Christmas sounds - always about 15 minutes full of anticipation.
Carriage rides during Advent.
Enjoy a carriage ride pulled by Feldschlösschen brewery horses through the pre-Christmas decorated Old Town and a mulled wine or punch stop in the Stadtpark at the Rhybar WinterQuartier.
DUNDU in the old town of Rheinfeld.
On December 5 and 6, a very special creature will light up Rheinfeld's old town: DUNDU, the glowing giant figure, will amaze visitors with its impressive movements and magical charisma.
Immerse yourself in a world of light, music and poetry and experience how DUNDU enchants the streets of the Old Town with its unique appearance. An unforgettable experience for young and old, not to be missed!
Performance times:
Friday, December 5: 4 p.m. | 6 p.m. | 8 p.m.
Saturday, December 6: 3 p.m. | 4.30 p.m. | 7 p.m.
DUNDU starts its tour from the Schifflände (duration approx. 30 minutes).
In case of bad weather, you can find out whether the performances will take place via social media (Instagram or Facebook).
Christmas markets.
Rheinfelden does not have a large, traditional Christmas market - but it does have various specialized Advent markets.
- From November 21 to November 30, 2025, the area around the "Brauwelt" will be transformed into the "Feldschlösschen Winter Village". Salt products, woodwork, beery gift ideas, mulled beer and Schüblig await visitors.
- Christmas market in the Augarten on November 29, 2025.
- Christmas flea market on November 29, 2025 in the old town of Rheinfeld. There are plenty of finds to discover at over 100 festively decorated stalls.
- On December 13, 2025, the traditional Advent in the Martinum will take place. The small bazaar offers Christmas decorations to engrave yourself, delicious lunch and coffee & cake.
- On December 13 and 14, 2025, the Christmas creative market will take place in the Kurbrunnen complex. Over 90 creative minds from Rheinfelden and all over Switzerland will be offering their Christmas-inspired crafts.
- The Rheinfelden weekly market will take place as usual on Wednesday and Saturday mornings in December.

Photo spot in the Schützenmatt park opposite Hotel Schützen with "RHYFÄLDE" lettering. The 125cm high letters made of untreated Swiss fir/spruce are another eye-catcher at the entrance to the old town as part of the Advent sparkle.

Rheinfelden Advent windows.
It's hard to imagine Rheinfelden without the tradition of artistically decorated Advent windows. For many years, volunteers have been decorating their windows with a great deal of creativity and joy, helping to bring a touch of Christmas magic to Rheinfelden.
Sound magic.
You can look forward to various concerts in the town squares, for example by the Vox Nova choir (December 3, 7.15 p.m.), framed by the Christmas atmosphere of the old town. Or attend a concert by the Klassik Sterne, the Stadtmusik Rheinfelden or the Capriccio Barockorchester. These are just a few of the numerous musical highlights in the town.

Customs & traditions.
Well singing takes place in Rheinfelden on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. This ancient custom has been celebrated by the Sebastiani Brotherhood for hundreds of years.
Every Saturday and Sunday from 2.30 pm, the Three Kings stand in front of the town hall and collect donations for a good cause.

Christmas sparkles November 28, 2025.
On November 28, 2025, the Old Town shone in festive splendour: from 5 p.m., the Christmas sparkle invited visitors to an atmospheric start to the Advent season.
The town music provided a magical atmosphere with Christmas sounds, while the old town stores were open until 8 pm for a leisurely stroll and discovery. A special highlight: the illuminated 6-horse carriage of the Feldschlösschen brewery made its way through the alleyways and ceremoniously brought the freshly brewed Christmas beer to the town hall.
