Great music in the open air

Live am Rhy" is being held in Stadtpark Ost for the 10th time this year. The organizers are Michael Häusler and Tobias Degen from the "Plugin" association. In this blog, Häusler explains, among other things, what is behind this event and why he looks forward to it year after year.

I have loved music since my youth. One day, together with my bandmates, I came up with the idea of organizing concerts myself. Our aim was for the bands to only have to bring their instruments and voices, hence our club name "Plugin". The musicians just bring their instruments, plug in and off they go. We take care of everything else.

Our association, which I have had the privilege of chairing since it was founded in 2008, consists of ten active members. As we organized various concerts in the region right from the start, we were soon in contact with the Rheinfelden cultural office and Brigitte Brügger. She was the one who came up with the idea of using the Stadtpark Ost for concerts.

"Live am Rhy" for the first time in 2016

In 2016, we held our first "Live am Rhy" in the beautiful Stadtpark Ost. Since then, the event has established itself and we have 200 to 300 visitors every year.

It's great that other people often come to Stadtpark Ost during the concerts to sunbathe or swim and also enjoy our program.

- "Live am Rhy" has been taking place since 2016; the event has firmly established itself in Rheinfelden's calendar of events.

Thanks to the support of the town of Rheinfelden, we can offer our guests free admission to the concert. Of course, it helps our cash register if our visitors consume the fine food specialties from the grill and the cool drinks at the bar. The weather is also crucial. Unfortunately, when it's raining or very hot, not much happens on the consumption front. We are therefore hoping for nice, pleasant summer weather again this year, so that people can enjoy spending the afternoon and evening with us in the park while listening to great music.

Concerts from 7 pm

Our concept is to offer bands from our region a platform. This year, "Peace of Dawn" from Wehr (D) will be playing from 7 pm and "40 JM" from 9.15 pm. The first band plays well-known songs with their classical instruments such as cello and flute, sometimes in a completely new "guise". The second band also plays cover versions. These bring us back to the sound of the 1990s. There will be songs by Greenday, Pearl Jam Red Hot Chilli Peppers and gems from the late 1980s by Bon Jovi and Billi Idol.

Highlight of the summer

For me, "Live am Rhy" is the highlight of the summer. Of course, there is a lot to do in the run-up to and at the event itself for me and my long-time companion Tobias Degen, as well as for our ten members and helpers. On Sunday evening, we are always happy when the last loudspeaker and the last cable have left the site and are back in the right place.

But we are always rewarded on Saturday. That's when the concert starts and we can look into the happy faces of our visitors. Then we usually know that we have done a lot of things right.

- "Live am Rhy" brings the organizers a lot of work every year - and even more wonderful moments.

The big job for us is to get all the infrastructure in place from Friday to Saturday lunchtime. It starts with a power cable and ends with a parasol. It's almost a battle of materials...

As every year, we are really looking forward to the big day. On August 16, 2025, we will be staging "Live am Rhy" for the tenth time in a row.

We were even allowed to hold the event during the pandemic - in compliance with the FOPH measures.

Soon it will be time again: in the picturesque Stadtpark Ost directly on the Rhine, our guests can expect great bands, rousing music, fine food and drink and a wonderful atmosphere in a wonderful ambience. We are looking forward to it.
