Die beiden Gänse schwimmen in ihrem Teich im Stadtpark

The geese are right at home in City Park

  • Autumn

At the end of February 2024, the two geese, Gundula and Gustav, moved into Stadtpark West. Park visitors of all ages are delighted to see the two peaceful residents by the pond.

Our names are Gundula and Gustav, and it’s been quite a while since Roman brought us to Rheinfelden. He always takes good care of us and stops by every evening. In the morning, two city park maintenance workers—who are also very nice—come by and bring us food. We love eating greens. On the one hand, we find plenty of grass and herbs in the lawn around the pond where we live. On the other hand, we get vegetables and vegetable scraps in the morning.

No Food from Park Visitors

Under no circumstances are we allowed to eat food from park visitors. If we were to eat food scraps or bread, for example, it would cause health problems for us. That’s why we’re really only allowed to eat what our kind caretakers in orange uniforms give us.

It seems like the people out for a walk really enjoy seeing us. Once, a man was worried that something had happened to us because he hadn’t seen us. But we were just in the barn when he came to visit us. On an island in the pond, our caretakers built us a beautiful barn where we feel very comfortable.

We love being out and about as a pair

We’re actually pretty easygoing creatures and enjoy living here in the park.

We’re waterfowl, so we love being in the pond, but we also enjoy hanging out in the grass. We always like to be out and about together.

And of course, we also enjoy it when we get to retreat to our coop on the pond island. We especially like being there at night—that’s when we feel really well protected.

We also love having company. So we’re always happy when people stop by. And we really enjoy seeing the men in the orange uniforms. Not just because they bring us food, but because they’re just so nice to us.

Sometimes Roman isn’t here for a while—apparently he’s on vacation then. When he comes back and we see him from a distance, we chatter really loudly because we’re so happy to finally see him again.

When we chatter, we’re feeling good.
